Any alternatives to air-mail shipping from the states? Like via container ships?

I want to send a package to South Africa but airmail is very expensive, especially for a big box. Now usually they send my packages to me via the container ships and it takes a while, but it’s very cheaper. Do you go to the post office and tell them via container ships or do I have to take it to another place?

also try some of the big standard shippers – like UPS, FedEx, but think that they do no use container ships.
